Healing with Hypnosis
Hypnosis offers us a very powerful way to heal ourselves — by tapping into the innate ability of our subconscious mind to adopt helpful patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors to support positive change in our lives.
Hypnotherapy, also called hypnosis counseling, guides us through the process. It can address so many issues, from stress, anxiety and fears to confidence and performance in the workplace, school, sports and creative endeavors.
With the aim always being progress, even little by little, hypnotherapy is a co-created experience, requiring equal dedication from the practitioner as well as the client for the best results.
For details about how it works and the TrueHeart method, answers to common question are below.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that most people shift in and out of multiple times a day. It feels similar to when you are on autopilot — perhaps while driving a familiar route, washing dishes or folding laundry — and your mind wanders.
Your conscious problem-solving, decision-making mind takes a break and your creative subconscious mind opens up. You might begin to imagine a place you’d like to visit in the future, or relive a memory from your past.
A hypnosis practitioner can help you get to an even deeper state needed for hypnotherapy.
It’s important to note that in any state of hypnosis, you are still completely aware of your surroundings and in control of yourself and able to “wake up” at any time.
What is hypnotherapy?
When a practitioner works with you to get you to a very deep level of hypnosis, where it’s possible to access your subconscious mind, which then takes in suggestions for positive change, that’s called hypnotherapy, or hypnosis counseling.
What issues does hypnotherapy address?
People seek out hypnotherapy for a wide variety of reasons. Here are some examples of what hypnotherapy can address:
Unwanted habits and behaviors
Stress and anxiety
Negative memories
Fears
Cravings
Weight loss
Smoking cessation
Confidence and motivation
Public speaking
Exam preparation
Pre- and post-surgery recovery
Resistance to change
Overall well-being
How does hypnotherapy work?
For the most part, you make decisions and solve problems primarily using your conscious mind. Your conscious mind is heavily influenced by your subconscious mind, which holds a lot of our programming — from our parents, education, experiences, etc. — which might become unhelpful to us as we go through life.
Hypnotherapy works to tap into the innate abilities of the subconscious mind to replace unhelpful patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors with new ones that support the positive changes we would like to make.
In order to do this, we can use a variety of hypnotherapy techniques, including but not limited to:
Regression to resolve issues stemming from past experiences and memories
Parts therapy to resolve inner conflicts
Direct suggestion to help us learn new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving
Visualization to practice success
Why does TrueHeart call it hypnosis counseling?
In most states, the service is called hypnotherapy, which is why our practitioner, Amanda Staab, MS, CHt is certified in hypnotherapy. However, the state of New Jersey specifically does not allow practitioners without a license to practice psychology or psychiatry — meaning those who can not diagnose conditions or prescribe medications — to use “therapy” in the name. So we call it hypnosis counseling, which is the same service as hypnotherapy.
What makes hypnosis counseling at TrueHeart Healing different?
Our founder Amanda Staab, MS, CHt is certified in hypnotherapy by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists. She takes a client-centered approach — meaning your needs and goals are discussed and agreed upon mutually, and therapeutic techniques used are personalized for you. Together, you create a plan and stay nimble, making adjustments to that plan when needed, according to what comes up during sessions.
Sessions are never one-size-fits-all. They’re always tailored to what works for you as an individual. That includes the methods used for getting you into a state of hypnosis as well as applying techniques to help you access and utilize your inner creative abilities to transform undesirable patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors into beneficial ones that support the change you’d like to see in your life.
After your first session, Amanda creates a unique meditation for you to listen to every day for a month to enhance the work you are doing together. She also teaches you self-hypnosis practices for moments when you need it in your everyday life.
At the start of each session, we discuss your progress, and together, make adjustments to the plan, if needed.
Between sessions, Amanda offers you homework, such as additional meditations, journaling or other exercises, to support you in this journey. She is there for you, every step of the way.
How do I get started?
Your first step is to schedule a free consultation — a 15-minute telephone call — to discuss the issues you would like to work on, as well as your preferences for treatment. You can do this through our Services page.
Once you schedule your first session — about a week after your consultation, Amanda shares with you a meditation recorded in her voice that you can listen to once a day, every day to prepare. This helps you get used to her voice, so you can get to an even deeper level of hypnosis and optimize your sessions.
It’s recommended that for any one issue, you have at least three hypnosis sessions. To accommodate this, we offer a package for $600, which covers all three. Each session typically lasts 1.5-2 hours.
Hypnosis has the power to change lives, as long as we stay committed to progress. We do everything we can to help you optimize your experience, while you also dedicate yourself to your healing.
